Holland is very popular among our touring schools due to its proximity and ease of access. It is well served from most UK airports and also obviously within easy reach of Calais. Many schools also chose the Harwich to Hook option which works very well.
The Dutch are very strong at hockey in all age groups and boast some superb training facilities. The domestic leagues arguably offer some of the highest standard of play worldwide in both men’s and woman’s hockey and a top level match is always worth building into your tour. Competitive hockey has also spilt over the border into Belgium where good fixtures are also possible and several schools chose to travel overland and play several fixtures in Holland, Belgium and even Germany over the course of a week to ten days.
Due to the cold winters there is a break in the hockey season from December – March where much of the Dutch Hockey moves to Spain!
Other sports played in Holland include cricket in the summer months, a sport that is with increased participation over recent years. Indeed Holland is the only country on mainland Europe where the cricket is developed enough to accept UK touring sides.
Football, like in the rest of Europe, is massively popular with many tournaments and fixtures available throughout the year at many different locations across the country.
The landscape is picturesque and the friendly hosts and interesting culture makes for a brilliant destination at very affordable prices. From a long weekend to a week away, Holland is a fantastic destination to tour.
