A Celebration of Youth Rugby
Introduction
Over the May bank holiday, Living With The Lions (LWTL) hosted their 2nd Annual Junior Rugby Festival in Burnham-On-Sea. This event has quickly become a highlight in the junior rugby calendar, catering to age groups from U7s through to U13s. With 77 squads from 10 different clubs participating, the festival is a testament to the growing popularity and enthusiasm for youth rugby in the region.
A Weekend of Rugby and Fun
The Burnham-On-Sea Rugby Club provides the perfect setting for this large-scale tournament. Over 14 pitches are marked out to accommodate the various age groups, ensuring continuous action throughout the weekend. The sidelines are packed with supportive parents, siblings, and teammates, creating an energetic and vibrant atmosphere. The festival is not just about the matches but also about fostering a sense of community and enjoyment among the young players and their families.
Ensuring a Safe and Smooth Event
Safety is a top priority at the Burnham-On-Sea Junior Rugby Festival. The event relies on the expertise of referees from Nottingham, Lincolnshire, and Derbyshire Rugby Referees Societies to ensure that the games are officiated fairly and safely. Additionally, a dedicated team of medics from the Local Medical Services is on hand to provide immediate medical assistance if needed. This collaboration ensures that all participants can enjoy the festival with peace of mind.
Community Effort and Volunteer Support
The success of the festival is largely due to the hard work and dedication of the staff and volunteers. Their efforts in organizing and managing the event are crucial in providing an action-packed and memorable weekend for everyone involved. From setting up the pitches to coordinating the matches and managing off-field activities, the commitment of these individuals is invaluable.
Beyond the Rugby: Social and Recreational Activities
The festival is not just about rugby; it also offers plenty of opportunities for socializing and relaxation. Clubs are accommodated in nearby holiday resorts, providing a platform for players and their families to unwind and bond off the pitch.
Celebrating the Spirit of Rugby
No tournament is complete without acknowledging the outstanding performances and sportsmanship displayed by the young players. Awards are given following the five key principles of rugby: teamwork, respect, enjoyment, sportsmanship, and discipline. This year’s special guest, Welsh International Aaron Wainwright, presented the awards. His presence added excitement to the event, with many eager for photos and autographs.
Looking Forward to Burnham 2025
The Burnham-On-Sea Junior Rugby Festival has quickly established itself as a premier event in the junior rugby scene. As we reflect on the success of this year’s festival, the anticipation for Burnham 2025 is already building. With the continued support of clubs, volunteers, and the local community, next year’s festival promises to be even bigger and better.
